How to Choose Your First Paintball Gun

Choosing a paintball gun, or marker as some folks refer to them, can be quite the daunting task if you’re a beginner to the sport of paintball. After all, paintball markers are expensive and they can have a pretty big impact on how well or poorly you play the game of paintball. If you want to avoid the same mistakes many beginning paintballers have made before you read this article to discover some very important tips and questions you should ask yourself prior to buying your first paintball gun.

The best piece of advice I can give you prior to buying your first paintball marker is to play with as many different guns as possible from as many different manufacturers before making your decision. The more experience you have playing with different guns the better suited you will be for making a good decision based on your likes and dislikes.

Another good piece of advice is to seek out the advice and guidance from your fellow paintball enthusiasts. There are several websites and forums specifically for paintball and there are a lot of user reviews of various paintball guns on these sites that could really help you make a more informed purchasing decision. It’s a good idea to seek out reviews online for any paintball guns you may be considering purchasing. Often this is a great way to find out what negatives that specific paintball marker may present or you just may find that you’ve already made a well informed decision and find nothing but positive reviews.

You should also ask yourself the following questions before buying your first paintball gun. Are you looking for a paintball marker that shoots out paintballs as fast as possible? Are you looking for a reliable paintball marker that will last you a long time? Do you want to spend as little as possible but still get a paintball marker that has some punch and power? Answering all of these questions will lead you down the path towards getting a paintball gun that fits what you’re looking for rather then just buying something that looks pretty.

Finally when you’re making your decision to buy your first paintball gun it’s a good idea to create an overall budget for everything you’re going to need to get started. At the very least you’re going to need a good paintball mask that protects your eyes, ears and face and you’re also going to need an air supply for your paintball marker as well as paintballs. This is why beginner paintball packages have become so popular in the paintball industry. It’s a fast, quick and easy way for anyone to get started in the sport.

To summarize, play with as many paintball markers as possible and read as many paintball gun reviews from other paintballers by joining the most popular paintball websites and forums. Do this and really know what kind of paintball marker you’re looking for and you’re sure to be happy with your first paintball gun.

Paintball Bunker Tips

Paintball has many aspects to it. As an experienced player I cannot deny that placement is yet another important part of the game; find yourself in the wrong place and you’ll be out in seconds. On the contrary place yourself strategically and you can take out player after player. These paintball bunker tips will help you stay on the right track, learn them, apply them and refine them using your own unique style.

1. Work on your cover. From a bunker you are a free target at certain sides, you should be aware of what are your exposed angles. You should be able to move around the bunker to avoid incoming shots. If you are playing a speedball match, you should take advantage of the many bunkers and allowing the same kind of dodging movement. If the bunkers are waist height, you should watch for a better barrier. If they overlap, this will give you a greater chance of not being detected, be careful and move quickly when needed to avoid detection.

2. Study your offensive actions. Does the bunker allows you shoot safely, does it help you move safely? These are questions you should be asking frequently to develop an inner sense of placement. Although the offensive ability relies on the players, some bunkers can be moved so you can advanced while attacking the enemy. I cannot stress enough how important is to work on this. An offensive movement consists of getting the sense to avoid being hit while cutting the movement to the enemy.

3. Know what are the bunker name’s. Every activity has its lingo and paintball is not an exception. If you’re starting out just ask, this will give you a great advantage in in-game communication. For example if someone yells at you Dorito! You’ll know what type of bunker to head to instead of taking out your snacks!

That’s it folks. Remember that placement and bunker knowledge is something to develop slowly. When the time has come you’ll be ready to take out as many players as a human can and you’ll See fields in a new way.

Positions on the Paintball Field

Like any other sport, paintball is no different in that there are positions players can play on a paintball field, more specifically a speedball field. In soccer you can find mid, defender and forward positions, each player with their own unique purpose, each acting as a link in the chain. Without one, the entire unit would fail, and in paintball we can find the same connection, after all it is a team sport.

So you step on the paintball speedball field for the first time and a more experienced looking player asks where you plan on going. An experienced player would reply first with the position he plans on filling in and secondly the location in that area. The same way you have a sideline defender or a center forward in the sport of soccer, is basically the same thing you will find in paintball.

The three positions in paintball consist of Front, Mid, and Backplayers. As in just about every team sport that has positions on the playing field, each position needs to be filled by a player that has the appropriate skill set. Front players need to be agile, snappy, and quick. You generally do not want your biggest player to play as a Front player, but it has been done, especially if for some reason they are exceptionally well at staying tight with a bunker.

While each position has its own skill set, only one I believe stands out as the biggest position on the paintball field. This position needs to be filled by a player that has an incredible ability to read the game, and needs to be your teams best player. While every position on the playing field is an important link in the chain, this position in particular is an especially large link, one that no team can manage to play without. To find out more about this key position on the paintball field, check out my website to read more of this article on paintball positions.
