Paintball Basics For Beginners

I just love playing paintball. It’s so exhilarating to be out there shooting away, planning strategies and tactics with my team. And if it’s your first time you are probably excited in combination with feeling a little nervous.

The Gun

It’s important to get used to how your gun works, and fire a few test shots. Also practice reloading, so you’ll know the procedure ahead of time. But actually one of the first difficulty a new player will have to deal with is foggy goggles. You need to keep them from fogging up by keeping a layer of moisture on them. Your own saliva should do the trick just fine. Now back to your gun – it’s possible a paintball could break inside the round chamber and if it does, you’ll need to know how to clean it out, so ask for a demonstration. If you get into the sport of paintball enough, soon you’ll probably purchase your own gun, and then you’ll be taking care of it well.

Go For It

OK – now on the the really important stuff. When actually playing, you need to go for it. Will it hurt when you get shot, yeah, a little. But if you always shy away or hide (unless you are using a specific tactic that incorporates this) then you’ll never advance against the other team, and you’ll never have much fun. Also if you re constantly afraid of getting shot, other players will see that in your behavior and go for the easy target. When they see someone on the move, yes they’ll try and shoot you, but they’ll also know that because you aren’t afraid you are more lethal, and that will put them on the defensive. Just remember it’s not real, and for fun, though you’ll be surprised at how much it can feel like a war! So get up and go, get in their face and fire as many rounds as you can.

Strategy & Tactics

Let’s talk about strategy. For each round of paintball I always find it’s good to start with a basic plan of attack. Since you’re new, they’ll probably be some more experienced players on your team that are good with strategy and tactics. Really listen and learn from them, and starting thinking this way. The key is to apply the tactics and also watch the other team and how they operate as a unit, they probably have a plan as well. So if you are playing against the same team for many rounds, you can adjust your tactics accordingly. Before you know it you’ll be leading your team! Of course during each round you’ll want to make tactical adjustments as well.

So those are some of the basic of playing pump paintball, now go out them – shoot ‘em up and knock ‘em dead – huuuaaa!
